What Is The Crown Chakra?
Crown chakra, also known as the “thousand-petaled lotus”, is the 7th energy center from the bottom, located at the top of your head. Healthy crown chakra vibrates to the color of violet or white, with thought as its dominant element.
The Sanskrit name for a crown chakra is ‘Sahasrara’, which means “thousandfold” and refers to infinite petals of its lotus representing the highest spiritual fulfillment.
Crown chakra is associated with the pituitary gland in your head, also known as the master gland. Pituitary gland controls and regulates the rest of the endocrine glands in your body (just like the crown chakra oversees the rest of your chakras).
What Is The Function of Crown Chakra?
The main function of the crown chakra is to connect you with the Divine force and infinite source of healing energy through spirituality, self-realization, knowing, and enlightenment. When you begin to open to the beautiful energy of the Divine, your crown chakra acts as a direct, energetic channel to your Higher Self.
You can think of your highest chakra as a receiver of consciousness from the Source, which keeps you connected with the Divine and your Higher Self. This chakra offers you a sense of awareness that there is a deeper significance and order in life, regulating all of creation.
Crown Chakra Symbol Meaning
Crown Chakra symbol is represented by the symbol of a violet lotus with 1000 petals. The circle in the center of the symbol portrays the vacuum of space.
As your consciousness rises from lower chakras all the way up to crown chakra, you will be able to connect and merge with this infinite space. You can also think of it as a ‘Circle of Oneness’ with all living beings in the Universe.
Crown chakra symbol sometimes has a syllable OM ॐ in the middle of it, also known as bija mantra (or seed mantra). The OM is considered to be the world's fundamental sound, which includes all the other sounds.
It is also a sacred spiritual symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, where it is regarded as the Universe's supreme sound and a representation of the Creator.
So, why does the crown chakra lotus has 1000 petals?
A thousand petals are meant to symbolize the power of kundalini energy, which rises into the awakened crown chakra. Ultimately, this amazing feeling can be described as a flower with multiple petals opening on top of your head.
Crown Chakra Color Meaning
The color associated with the crown chakra is violet, which has the highest vibrational frequency in the entire spectrum of colors. Violet is a color of spirituality, reflection, and self-awareness.
An aura of violet indicates a person’s high level of curiosity, interest, and a desire to search for answers to various life problems to pursue the right path. Violet gives an inward feeling of unity, integrity, and wholeness.
White is another color that is often associated with the crown chakra. White represents purity, perfection, innocence, and new beginnings. It will encourage you to remain calm, focused, and keep your mind open.
So, what’s the best way to work with these spiritual colors?
One of the simplest and most powerful techniques for opening your crown chakra is to imagine lots of bright, white light surrounding your body. Once you get better at envisioning white light in your aura, you can amplify the power of this technique by imaging the same light surrounding the entire Earth.

Crown Chakra Blockage
Your crown chakra is most likely blocked and imbalanced when you feel:
- Disconnected from spirituality
- Detached from the Divine / God / Universe
- Unreasonably focused on material possessions
- Meaninglessness and lack of purpose in life
The archetype of the person with the blocked crown chakra is known as the ‘The Egoist’. Egoists are individuals who believe that their ambition alone will move them through their lives. They think that they are isolated from a larger existence and that the results of their lives are controlled by their efforts alone.
The Egoist is a narcissistic individual who is trapped in a state of separation and very often experience feelings of loneliness and isolation. The Egotist is profoundly rooted in the material world and has a view of life, which doesn’t allow him to acknowledge a higher force.
Crown Chakra Awakening and Healing
Awakening to the crown chakra level of awareness is the full realization that Everything is One and all come from the same Divine origin. Letting go of your ego identifications can be the first step on the way to awakening and healing your blocked crown chakra. Your ego has an important role: to keep you alive. However, it also gives you a false sense of yourself.
When you recognize something outside of yourself as more important than your spirit, you will experience feelings of separation.
One of the best ways you can put these ideas into a simple, daily practice is to follow the universal law, which states that when you are compassionate, kind, and respect others, you are also kind to yourself. This is the beauty and simplicity of Oneness.
How Do I Open My Crown Chakra?
One of the most important things you can do when working with your crown chakra is to commit to the path of absolute surrender to the higher power.
In Buddhism, this degree of awareness is represented by the path of Bodhisattva. When you decide to take the path of Bodhisattva, your crown chakra will awaken. Bodhisattva makes a resolution to attain Buddhahood and chooses enlightenment for the benefit of all. All previous chakras must be integrated and balanced to maintain this level of consciousness.
When you decide to embark on your own path of enlightenment and give up the myth of separation, your spirit will be lifted to the highest levels of awareness.
So, are you willing to open yourself up to your true, Divine nature?
Here are a few key things to consider before we get into specific methods of healing your crown chakra:
- Be open to receiving guidance.
- Remember that you are part of something greater.
- Live in the present moment as much as you can.
- Remain centered in pure awareness, especially during times of chaos.
- Spiritual purification sometimes requires silence and deep reflection.
- Enlightenment is a state where you experience oneness with all life.
- Your spirit is eternal.
With that in mind, let’s take a small break and grab a pen and a piece of paper.
I wrote down few (essential for activation of your crown chakra) questions below.
Take your time to meditate on them and write down your answers before moving to the next part of the article.Don’t worry if you are unable to give a clear answer to some of them right now. You can revisit these questions later on.
What is the greatest sense of purpose, order, or awareness with which you may align?
- What part of divinity drives you the most to do your best?
- What are the highest standards and principles you want to aspire to?
- What are the greatest attributes or values that you would like to embody?- What's the biggest gift that you have?
- How can you turn your gift into service to others?
Now, let’s have a look at some of the best methods I have personally tried to heal and awaken my crown chakra:
1. Crown Chakra Meditation
Mediation is the most important practice for unlocking the power of your crown chakra. It is a necessary habit to cultivate if you want to clear the mind, expand your awareness, and develop the ability to listen to your inner voice. I am sure that you are most likely familiar with the benefits of meditation, as many people talk about them quite a lot these days.
However, your crown chakra is directly correlated with your brain, and any meditative practice, which brings stillness to your mind will be very beneficial to your crown chakra. When your mind is still and calm, your brain waves begin to shift to the alpha state, and you begin to connect to the infinite source of information.
There are many different forms of meditation, such as:
- Guided meditation
- Mindfulness meditation
- Concentration meditation
- Active movement meditation (such as Tai Chi or Yoga)
- Mantra meditation
- Transcendental meditation
Pick the one you like the most, and make it a daily habit to quiet your mind and nourish your spirit.

2. Crown Chakra Silence Exercise
Whether you’re into meditation or not, spending some time in silence (alone or with your friend) is also a great way to cultivate deeper awareness and practice being present.
Intentional silence is actually an ancient, sacred practice, also known as 'Mauna'. Practitioners of Mauna normally start by simply limiting their speech to an absolute minimum. Eventually, you can refrain from reading, writing, and minimize contact with others.
Before you start, make sure you eliminate all of the distractions from your environment and open yourself up to the power of Mauna. This is also a great exercise to do when you feel overwhelmed or stuck in life. Silence exercise will allow you to open up your mind to new ideas and inspiration.
3. Crown Chakra Visualization
Because your crown chakra is located right at the top of your head, it is not difficult to rest your awareness on that area and visualize it. The best way to do it is to envision a violet colored lotus right above your head and imagine it opening and expanding in all directions.
You can also imagine a ball of violet light spinning in a clockwise direction. At the same time, picture a bright, golden-white light coming through the opening funnel and filling up your entire body.
This simple visualization method is very effective because when you think about your crown chakra and visualize it opening, it will begin to open.
4. Crown Chakra Affirmations
Crown chakra affirmations can be useful when working with your Sahasrara as they can help you to connect with your Higher Self and completely clear all of your ego identifications.
Try some of these powerful crown chakra affirmations. They can be used throughout the day or during your meditation to strengthen your 7th chakra:
- I am divine light.
- I am at peace.
- I am one with all that is.
- I am infinite and boundless.
- I see the divine light in everyone.
- I listen to the wisdom of the universe.
- I seek to understand and learn from my life experiences.
- I seek experiences that nourish my spirit.
- I am connected with the wisdom of the Universe.
- I am raising my level of consciousness every day
- I receive help as soon as I ask for it.
- Everything is unfolding exactly as it should in my life.
- Everything is working out for my highest good.
- My thoughts and feelings have the power to manifest.
5. Crown Chakra Yoga Poses
Some of the most effective yoga poses for crown chakra are postures that stimulate the energy and blood flow to your head. Supported Headstand is one of my personal favorite yoga poses for the crown chakra, and I have been practicing it for many years.
However, if you suffer from a back or neck injury, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can substitute it for the Viparita Karani pose, which is probably the second-best pose for your crown chakra.
Let’s have a look at the complete list of the most effective yoga poses for your crown chakra:
- Supported Headstand (Salamba Sirasana)
- Legs Up The Wall pose (Viparita Karani)
- Lotus pose (Padmasana)
- Tree pose (Vrksasana)
- Standing Prayer Backbend (Ardha Anuvittasana)
- Rabbit Pose (Sasangasana)
6. Crown Chakra Stones and Crystals
Violet, purple and white stones are considered to be the most beneficial for healing your crown chakra as they resonate strongly with Sahasrara colors.
Some of the gemstones that can help you to improve and balance your crown center are:
Amethyst – this purple gemstone is excellent for the highest chakras. Amethyst holds a strong vibrational frequency, and it is a great stone for prayer, meditation, and contemplation. Amethyst is a gem of divine protection and cleansing. It will purify your energy field from harmful energies and attachments. It generates a resonant, divine light shield all over the body.
Clear Quartz – this purifying stone has the power to unlock the mind and open you up to higher guidance. Crystal quartz is known to enhance consciousness and spiritual energies. When it comes to holistic healing, there is no better choice than clear quartz, which is considered to be a master healer crystal – it will be useful for activating your master gland (pituitary), which governs your crown chakra.
Moonstone – this beautiful gemstone of new beginnings is useful for balancing your crown and third eye chakras. Moonstone urges one to be mindful of the life cycles and to honor the milestones and passing cycles of each new period. Moonstone teaches us to let go of grievances and surrender ourselves to the natural flow of life.
You can use any of these powerful crown chakra stones and crystals by holding them, wearing them in the form of jewelry, or simply having them around your house.
7. Crown Chakra Foods
Crown chakra is the seat of universal consciousness and divine connection, so there are no specific foods that can resonate with its frequency.
Some of the best "foods" for your crown chakra are:
- Clean water
- Fresh air and spending your time in nature
Crown chakra has a few important lessons when it comes to food and eating:
- Recognize and acknowledge the food as a gift. You can include your own prayer (spiritual practice) before your meals.
- Release your attachment to food and purify your body through fasting.
- Understand that the quality of the food you consume is much important than the quantity.
8. Crown Chakra Essential Oils
Essential oils are a great way of establishing a better connection with the Divine. They will help you to free your spirit and allow you to feel more relaxed during your crown chakra meditations.
Some of the best essential oils for healing the crown chakra include frankincense, peppermint, sandalwood, rosemary, and lotus.
What’s the best way of using essential oils for blocked chakra?
One of the best ways of making the most of your essential oil is using a diffuser or aroma humidifier, which will also create a soothing smell in your room and help you resolve any dry skin issues. Another great way of using any of the crown chakra essential oils is to apply them directly onto your forehead or having a relaxing foot massage.
Crown Chakra Opening Symptoms
Your crown chakra will start to open when you begin to trust more in Divine perfection. As a result, you will be able to experience a state of flow daily. Deeper faith that everything is unfolding exactly as it should and you are exactly where you need to be in life is one of the major symptoms of your crown chakra opening.
When your crown chakra is opening, its appearance in your auric field will start to look like a halo. Many paintings and drawings of spiritual beings very often portray them with a halo effect around their head.
As you progress through your spiritual awakening, process the hue of your crown chakra starts to shift from a violet to a bright, white color. Ultimately, a healthy and balanced crown chakra will allow you to open yourself up to the insights from higher dimensional realities and reach your highest potential.
Keep in mind that when you say yes to the evolution of your soul, you also say yes to collective evolution throughout the world. Crown chakra's most important teaching is that we are all ONE.
