What is Merkaba?

Merkaba, sometimes spelled, Merkabah is a word that comes from Hebrew, and it translates to 'chariot' or 'thing to ride in.'

According to the vision described in the first chapter of Ezekiel (1:4-26), Merkaba was adopted by ancient Jewish mystics as an object of their contemplation.

The symbol was actually referenced about 44 times in the Old Testament of the Bible.

To understand the meaning of the word Merkaba, you've got to break it down into three parts.

The first part is "Mer", the second is "ka", and the last part of the word is "ba".

And what do they mean?

Well, "Mer" means light, or more importantly, the divine light. "Ka" represents your spirit, and "Ba" is your body.

Only when you combine the strength of the light, the spirit, and the body, you can reach a completely balanced and harmonious level that helps you channel your energy to connect to the higher consciousness.

How do you combine them, though?

Well, imagine yourself in a deep meditative state where your spirit and body are joined together.

Now imagine that the union of the spirit and the body is enclosed in a protective coating of the diving light.

What you get through this combination is the balance created by Merkaba. Merkaba protects you and guides you.

It's uplifting, harmonizing, purifying, and energizing, all at the same time.

What is Merkaba Symbol Meaning?

Okay, now you know the Merkaba meaning.

But didn't we start by saying that Merkaba is a sacred symbol?

So, if it's just a union of light, spirit, and body, where and how does the symbol come to the fore?

Let's find out.

The Merkaba sign is very much like the star. One that is made of two tetrahedrons (triangular pyramids) rotating in opposite directions.

The symbol almost looks like a star, but a little bit more complicated. And that's why the symbol is sometimes called the star tetrahedron.

The real symbol is also 3-dimensional. So, if you've just seen it on a piece of clothing, you might not be able to visualize it completely.

So, what is the meaning of this symbol?

The two tetrahedrons are said to constantly spin in opposite directions and create a perfectly balanced energy field.

  • The top tetrahedron represents masculine forces and rotates in the clockwise direction.
  • The bottom tetrahedron is all about the female energy and rotates in a counter-clockwise fashion.

The two opposing tetrahedrons also represent the two opposing forces of the Cosmos (the top one) and the Earth (the bottom one).

By consistently balancing the opposing energies, Merkaba creates a vehicle of light that allows you, spirit and body together, into realms of higher consciousness.

The symbol also reminds you of the potential power you already have and that there's nothing impossible to achieve once you unite your energies and bring out this true power from the depths of your soul.

What are the Origins of the Merkaba Symbol?

The term and the symbol of Merkaba may seem interesting, exotic, almost otherworldly.

So, if you're intrigued to know more about the origin of this symbol, continue to read.

Although it's difficult to pinpoint the origin of the Merkaba symbol to a particular year, the earliest references are seen in ancient Hebrew texts that date back to the 1st century AD.

The Jews in those times considered Merkaba to be a chariot of light that helped their minds to travel through higher realms.

The symbol is also mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible, which shows that it's been there for thousands of years.

Also, between 200 and 700 AD, the literature around Merkaba began to truly take shape.

There's another origin story of Merkaba that involves the Flower of Life.

The Flower of Life is considered the most important sacred symbol that consists of even-spaced but overlapping circles. These circles give it a flower-like pattern.

When you join the centers of these flowers with straight lines, you get some solid shapes. Among these, you can easily see the two opposing tetrahedrons, which form Merkaba.

Your Personal Star Tetrahedron

You may not realize it but everyone has a Merkaba.

Your Merkaba consistently works with your soul to keep you balanced.

But for most of us going through our daily grinds and leading our fast-paced, stressful lives, this blissful vehicle of light may not be fully activated.

Can you activate it?

Of course, you can.

You can program your Merkaba so that it activates itself and guides you through the path of achieving your spiritual, physical, and mental greatness.

Initially, you may have to work with an energy healer to learn certain breathing patterns that get your Merkaba spinning.

It has to be spinning before you can program or activate it to get yourself to the point your desire.

Remember that the healer can only guide you but it must be you who programs your Merkaba because Merkaba is a very personal phenomenon and everyone's energy levels are specific to their body and spirit.

To program your Merkaba, you can either ask it to take you to the reality that you want or you can ask it to transform your body and spirit in a way that you have more acceptance of everything around you.

No matter how your program it, when done consistently and correctly, your very own star tetrahedron can guide you to a more blissful life and even extend the joy towards your near ones, the planet you live on, and even beyond, into the whole universe.
